One of the many promises we can stand on is that the Lord will lead His people. The radical Christian is a follower. Yes in today’s church much emphasis is placed on leadership. The odd part is much of the leadership discussed comes from the secular world’s Fortune 500’s thinking. In reality we need more emphasis on followership. We need people who are will to follow Jesus Christ wholeheartedly. Being a follower is not a bad thing as this means that the radical Christian knows that God will lead them to where He is taking them. I like what it says in Exodus 15 11 Who among the gods is like you, Lord? Who is like you— majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders? 12 “You stretch out your right hand, and the earth swallows your enemies.13 In your unfailing love you will lead the people you have redeemed. In your strength you will guide them to your holy dwelling. 14 The nations will hear and tremble; anguish will grip the people of Philistia. 15 The chiefs of Edom will be terrified, the leaders of Moab will be seized with trembling, the people of Canaan will melt away; 16 terror and dread will fall on them. By the power of your arm they will be as still as a stone—until your people pass by, Lord, until the people you bought pass by. 17 You will bring them in and plant them on the mountain of your inheritance—the place, Lord, you made for your dwelling, the sanctuary, Lord, your hands established.” Later in Joshua Rahab said, 2 “I know that the Lord has given you this land and that a great fear of you has fallen on us, so that all who live in this country are melting in fear because of you. 10 We have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to Sihon and Og, the two kings of the Amorites east of the Jordan, whom you completely destroyed. 11 When we heard of it, our hearts melted in fear and everyone’s courage failed because of you, for the Lord your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below.” When we follow God He will lead us on the right path in the midst of our enemies. He will also lead us to the exact place that He is taking us to. Not only will God lead us, He will empower us to defeat all our enemies. Why do we try so hard to carry out our own plans? I always cringe when I hear people telling God their plans and then ask Him to bless them. A true leader of the gospel is one who follows the word of God and does not turn away from it. There are many leaders and a whole lot of info out there in the leadership world. Who are you following? Is most of your time spent on leading or following? If you humble yourself before God and follow these instructions you will live long in the land. Deuteronomy 17:18 “When he takes the throne of his kingdom, he is to write for himself on a scroll a copy of this law, taken from that of the Levitical priests. 19 It is to be with him, and he is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to revere the Lord his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and these decrees 20 and not consider himself better than his fellow Israelites and turn from the law to the right or to the left. Then he and his descendants will reign a long time over his kingdom in Israel.” Be a follower of the word of God.
