What a great question that is. Actually it is not so much a question but a statement. Just before that statement David said to Solomon in 1 Chronicles 22:16 “Now begin the work, and the Lord be with you.” What a great task we have been charged with and what a great responsibility to follow the way of Jesus as we re-build. Since the Lord is with us we have nothing to fear, not the obstacles or the opposition, just “be strong and courageous and do not be afraid or discouraged.” David was given a promise from God that is still in affect today.1 Kings 2:4 states, “and that the Lord may keep his promise to me: ‘if your descendants watch how they live, and if they walk faithfully before me with all their heart and soul, you will never fail to have a successor on the throne of Israel.” This is good news for us as God never breaks his promise but we must walk faithfully. Along with that promise comes protection as we build, knowledge of what we are building, and resources. We will have more than enough as Exodus 36:1 tells us, “So Bezalel, Oholiab and every skilled person to whom the Lord has given skill and ability to know how to carry out all the work of constructing the sanctuary are to do the work just as the Lord has commanded. And so the people were restrained from bringing more, 7 because what they already had was more than enough to do all the work.” God will give us everything we need because the Lord God is with us. Just like Joshua took the land we too will take the land.
I leave you with this powerful verse. 1 Chronicles 22:8 He said to them, “Is not the Lord your God with you? And has he not granted you rest on every side? For he has given the inhabitants of the land into my hands, and the land is subject to the Lord and to his people. 19 Now devote your heart and soul to seeking the Lord your God. Begin to build the sanctuary of the Lord God.” Because God is with us He will give us rest from our enemies, but we must devote our heart and soul and work willingly. As we participate in rebuilding the church with the remnant all over the world, we build with the power of God over us because He is with us!
