This week our focus is on the Lord God Almighty. Today we are looking at “God is the Theory of Everything.” Now if you don’t know what that is, neither does anyone else, as it doesn’t exist, at least in the science realm. The bible on the other hand describes the “Theory of Everything” perfectly. The idea behind the “Theory of Everything” is that they are looking for a theory that is all-encompassing. One article described it this way, “The theory of everything is a proposed notion in the scientific community which states that there is one all-encompassing theory that proposes a framework of understanding of all of physics, combining the quantum mechanics and classical physics into a unified approach which explains the laws of the universe.” To sum it up, it is a theory that explains everything. Before he died Stephen Hawking was working on this theory. He spent his life looking for the answer but refused the truth right in front of him. The above article went on to say, “While no one has actually been able to come up with such a theory, Stephen Hawking was able to elucidate a formulation that unified quantum mechanics and classical physics as it pertains to the description of black holes.” Whatever that means? Hawking was also not able to come up with the theory.
Before he died, his last book was called Brief Answers to the Big Questions. Stephen Hawking answers the big questions in his final book. The one big question he was asked, “Is there a God?” Here are a few of his opinions. “One could define God as the embodiment of the laws of nature. However, this is not what most people would think of as God. They mean a human-like being, with whom one can have a personal relationship. When you look at the vast size of the universe, and how insignificant and accidental human life is in it, that seems most implausible.” Can you imagine how different his life could have been if had met the Jesus of scripture. Unfortunately, when he does meet Jesus it is too late. He goes on to say, “I think the universe was spontaneously created out of nothing, according to the laws of science. Despite the complexity and variety of the universe, it turns out that to make one you need just three ingredients. Let’s imagine that we could list them in some kind of cosmic cookbook. So what are the three ingredients we need to cook up a universe? The first is matter — stuff that has mass. Matter is all around us, in the ground beneath our feet and out in space. Dust, rock, ice, liquids. Vast clouds of gas, massive spirals of stars, each containing billions of suns, stretching away for incredible distances. The second thing you need is energy. Even if you’ve never thought about it, we all know what energy is. Something we encounter every day. Look up at the Sun and you can feel it on your face: energy produced by a star ninety-three million miles away. Energy permeates the universe, driving the processes that keep it a dynamic, endlessly changing place. So we have matter and we have energy. The third thing we need to build a universe is space. Lots of space. You can call the universe many things — awesome, beautiful, violent — but one thing you can’t call it is cramped. Wherever we look we see space, more space and even more space. Stretching in all directions. As I was growing up in England after the Second World War, it was a time of austerity. We were told that you never get something for nothing. But now, after a lifetime of work, I think that actually you can get a whole universe for free. So what does this mean in our quest to find out if there is a God? It means that if the universe adds up to nothing, then you don’t need a God to create it. The universe is the ultimate free lunch.” “But of course the critical question is raised again: did God create the quantum laws that allowed the Big Bang to occur? In a nutshell, do we need a God to set it up so that the Big Bang could bang? I have no desire to offend anyone of faith, but I think science has a more compelling explanation than a divine creator. Hawking concludes with his most direct, personal answer to the universal question: “It’s my view that the simplest explanation is that there is no God. No one created the universe and no one directs our fate. This leads me to a profound realization: there is probably no heaven and afterlife either. (Pretty sad) I think belief in an afterlife is just wishful thinking. There is no reliable evidence for it, and it flies in the face of everything we know in science. I think that when we die, we return to dust. But there’s a sense in which we live on, in our influence, and in our genes that we pass on to our children. We have this one life to appreciate the grand design of the universe, and for that I am extremely grateful. One day, I hope we will know the answers to all these questions.” He will!
Hawking obviously was a proponent of the big bang theory. You may have noticed something he said makes no sense as to describing the beginning. He said, “the universe was spontaneously created out of nothing.” He then goes to say three things are needed, matter, energy and space. These are not nothing. His theory doesn’t explain where they came from. To believe this nonsense, the scientific community has to set aside their laws that apply to everything (except God) for the big bang theory to work. We all know that when nothing explodes something perfect doesn’t come out of it. When you see something so perfect as the world and universe we live in, the obvious question like all other perfect things, is who created it? For someone as smart as Hawking was, he was a fool in God’s eyes. His conclusion was that there is no God. “It’s my view that the simplest explanation is that there is no God. No one created the universe and no one directs our fate. This leads me to a profound realization: there is probably no heaven and afterlife either.”
Our theme this Lenten journey is “Prepare to meet your God.” For Stephen Hawking it is too late but when he does meet God, he will not spend eternity with Him but with satan. Saying there is no God means then you do not have to fear God, if in your mind God doesn’t exist but that would be ridiculous, even ludicrous. Yet many people live their lives this way. They think if they reject God they are no longer accountable to Him. That day has come for Hawking who says there is no God. He has died and will meet his creator face to face only to hear depart from me I don’t know you. Matthew 25:41 “Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.” He will have found the theory of everything he so desperately wanted to solve, except for the rest of eternity he will spend it in hell with satan and all the others who listened to him. Every knee will bow to the Lord Almighty but not every knee will spend eternity with God. Psalm 14:1 “The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good. 2 The Lord looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God. 3 All have turned away, all have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one. 4 Do all these evildoers know nothing?” Romans 1:18 “The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. 21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles. 24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.”
The theory of everything is simple; God is the theory of everything. Isaiah 54:5 “For your Maker is your husband— the Lord Almighty is his name— the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; He is called the God of all the earth.” Amos 4:13 “He who forms the mountains, who creates the wind, and who reveals his thoughts to mankind, who turns dawn to darkness, and treads on the heights of the earth— the Lord God Almighty is his name.” If you have listened to the nonsense these intellectuals are teaching, then go back to the beginning. Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 2:4 “This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, when the Lord God made the earth and the heavens.” Exodus 20:11 “For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.” Yes, it was six days. If you are questioning that, then you have to delete a few verses. If you cannot accept that, you will have little faith and probably also won’t accept most of the bible that cannot be explained. Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. 2 This is what the ancients were commended for. 3 By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.” If you can’t accept the creation, you probably won’t believe that today God could heal those like Hawkings. Nehemiah 9:5 “Stand up and praise the Lord your God, who is from everlasting to everlasting.” “Blessed be your glorious name, and may it be exalted above all blessing and praise. 6 You alone are the Lord. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you.” Psalm 89:11 “The heavens are yours, and yours also the earth; you founded the world and all that is in it.” Psalm 102:25 “In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. 26 They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded. 27 But you remain the same, and your years will never end.” Isaiah 42:5 “This is what God the Lord says—the Creator of the heavens, who stretches them out, who spreads out the earth with all that springs from it, who gives breath to its people, and life to those who walk on it.” Isaiah 45:12 “It is I who made the earth and created mankind on it. My own hands stretched out the heavens; I marshaled their starry hosts.” Yes you can reject scripture as Hawkings did, but you will still stand before the Lord God Almighty in the last day.
When we submit our lives to the creator of the universe, to the Lord God Almighty, we have nothing to fear. Isaiah 41:13 “For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.” Jeremiah 32:17 “Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.” Only acknowledge the Lord God Almighty. Acts 4:23 “On their release, Peter and John went back to their own people and reported all that the chief priests and the elders had said to them. 24 When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God. “Sovereign Lord,” they said, “you made the heavens and the earth and the sea, and everything in them.” Revelation 14:6 “Then I saw another angel flying in midair, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth—to every nation, tribe, language and people. 7 He said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.” Hawking said “They mean a human-like being, with whom one can have a personal relationship. When you look at the vast size of the universe, and how insignificant and accidental human life is in it, that seems most implausible.” But we are told John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. 14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.”
