Yesterday we began to see the detestable abomination committed by the people of the land. We also saw those abominations practiced by Israel also to the extent it was even worse as we saw with Manasseh. “They did more evil than the nations the Lord had destroyed before the Israelites.” Today sexual sins still cause many to fall. These sins are still abominations before God. We even see abominations such as homosexuality embraced by the church just as they were in the Old Testament. That’s the wrong family by the way and not the family of God. Instead of being in Abraham’s family, you will be part of this family. Genesis 9:24 “When Noah awoke from his wine and found out what his youngest son had done to him, 25 he said, “Cursed be Canaan! The lowest of slaves will he be to his brothers.” 26 He also said, “Praise be to the Lord, the God of Shem! May Canaan be the slave of Shem. 27 May God extend Japheth’s territory; may Japheth live in the tents of Shem, and may Canaan be the slave of Japheth.” Canaan’s sons are as listed. 1 Chronicles 1:14 “Sidon his firstborn and of the Hittites, 14 Jebusites, Amorites, Girgashites, 15 Hivites, Arkites, Sinites, 16 Arvadites, Zemarites and Hamathites. Another son of Ham was 11 Egypt was the father of the Ludites, Anamites, Lehabites, Naphtuhites, 12 Pathrusites, Kasluhites (from whom the Philistines came) and Caphtorites.” God had promised Abraham to give him their land.
When we take this land, we cannot do as they do. They were told not to be like the people of the land they had conquered, we are told the same. Deuteronomy 12:31 “You must not worship the Lord your God in their way, because in worshiping their gods, they do all kinds of detestable things the Lord hates. They even burn their sons and daughters in the fire as sacrifices to their gods.” 2 Kings 17:13 “The Lord warned Israel and Judah through all his prophets and seers: “Turn from your evil ways. Observe my commands and decrees, in accordance with the entire Law that I commanded your ancestors to obey and that I delivered to you through my servants the prophets.” 14 But they would not listen and were as stiff-necked as their ancestors, who did not trust in the Lord their God. 15 They rejected his decrees and the covenant he had made with their ancestors and the statutes he had warned them to keep. They followed worthless idols and themselves became worthless. They imitated the nations around them although the Lord had ordered them, “Do not do as they do. 16 They forsook all the commands of the Lord their God and made for themselves two idols cast in the shape of calves, and an Asherah pole. They bowed down to all the starry hosts, and they worshiped Baal. 17 They sacrificed their sons and daughters in the fire. They practiced divination and sought omens and sold themselves to do evil in the eyes of the Lord, arousing his anger.”
Canaan was to be destroyed meaning the abominations of their sin. Today we fight a spiritual battle. The total peoples were destroyed, now it is sin that is supposed to be demolished. Numbers 33:50 “On the plains of Moab by the Jordan across from Jericho the Lord said to Moses, 51 “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘When you cross the Jordan into Canaan, 52 drive out all the inhabitants of the land before you. Destroy all their carved images and their cast idols, and demolish all their high places. 53 Take possession of the land and settle in it, for I have given you the land to possess.” These sins are still sins. God has not changed. The message to the church is still the same; do not do as they do. Because of Jesus we are part of the family of God. I trust after reading these verses you will see there is no way those who believe the sins of Canaan can be part of the church without repentance and turning away from their wickedness. We cannot cling to these sins and still think we are part of the family of God. Jeremiah 8:5 “Why then have these people turned away? Why does Jerusalem always turn away? They cling to deceit; they refuse to return. 6 I have listened attentively, but they do not say what is right. None of them repent of their wickedness, saying, “What have I done?” Each pursues their own course like a horse charging into battle.”
So no matter what your tradition or experience or your reasoning says, the bible says no to abominations. Yes you may be told our church is inclusive and your sexual preference doesn’t matter before God because God is love but it does matter because if you do not repent you will be part of the wrong family and spend eternity in hell no matter what you were told. As most churches have moved away from standing on God’s word, you see Paul’s words continue in them. He said in Romans 1:24 “Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen. 26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.” He also confirms that tradition, reason and experience cannot replace scripture. Here he gives us the message of the salvation so that even though they have received the due penalty, there is hope in the power of the Holy Spirit to be changed. 1 Corinthians 6:9 “Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”
