On Monday, April 8th we saw a total eclipse, a “celestial event of extraordinary beauty” that shouted to the world, I am God and there is no other. Isaiah 45:18 “For this is what the Lord says— he who created the heavens, he is God; he who fashioned and made the earth, he founded it; he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited— he says: “I am the Lord, and there is no other.” God’s creation was supposed to worship God and God alone. We are also told that all those people that witnessed this event are accountable before God. Romans 1:18 “The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” Paul goes on to say that instead of worshipping God, they reject Him. 21 “For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.”
Another event took place on April 8th, 2024, that is of great significance, especially when we hear the report of their findings. (That will make sense in a moment) A person who rejected God will come face to face with His creator. The man’s name is Peter Higgs, a Nobel prize winner along with many other accolades. He died on this day April 8th, 2024 at the age of 94. He had his whole life and a long one at that to submit to God, but instead looked for a way to explain creation instead of giving glory to God. One article said, “Nobel prize-winning physicist Peter Higgs, who proposed the existence of the so-called "God particle" that helped explain how matter formed after the Big Bang, has died at age 94, the University of Edinburgh said Tuesday. Higgs predicted the existence of a new particle — the so-called Higgs boson — in 1964. But it would be almost 50 years before the particle's existence could be confirmed at the Large Hadron Collider. Higgs' work helps solve one of the most fundamental riddles of the universe: how the Big Bang created something out of nothing 13.7 billion years ago.” Does it? Another said, “According to modern physics, matter consists of a set of particles that act as building blocks. Between these particles lie forces that are mediated by another set of particles. A fundamental property of the majority of particles is that they have a mass. Independently of one another, in 1964 both Peter Higgs and the team of François Englert and Robert Brout proposed a theory about the existence of a particle that explains why other particles have a mass. In 2012, two experiments conducted at the CERN laboratory confirmed the existence of the Higgs particle.”
It still did not explain the theory of everything. In the end you worship a particle that was always there but still leaves the Big Bang Theory just as ridiculous as it was before. The interesting part is that Higgs was an atheist and it has been said he did not like the term “God Particle” One atheist writer said, “Peter Higgs, the physicist who first deduced and proposed the existence of the theoretical field now known as the Higgs boson, does not believe in God. After Leon Lederman, another nonbelieving physicist, had jokingly referred to the mysterious boson as the “God particle,” Higgs was not happy: “I wish he hadn’t done it. I have to explain to people it was a joke. I’m an atheist.” The phrase became part of the title for Lederman’s 2006 book, The God Particle: If the Universe is the Answer, What is the Question? Other scientists agree with Higgs. Pauline Gagnon, a Canadian physicist working at the Large Hadron Collider, said: “I hate that ‘God particle’ term. The Higgs [boson] is not endowed with any religious meaning. It is ridiculous to call it that.” I am certain Lederman did not have any spiritual motive. He was not trying to endow the particle with any “religious meaning.” He was using language in an ironic and humorous way. And most likely his publisher knew that the word “God” helps sell books. According to one story, Lederman first called it the “goddam particle,” but the editor didn’t think that would make a great title.”
On the same day that God’s glory was once again on display as it is every day, a man who does not believe in God died. I said earlier, tongue in cheek that we would hear a report of this person’s findings. The reality is we will not hear from him again, as the bible has made it clear. Just to be clear I am not trying to make a joke of this because this man will spend eternity in hell, but can you imagine how this incredibly wise man would realize what a fool he was when face to face with God. Psalm 14:1 “The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good.” Can you imagine what he would now write? You can actually because it has already been written in the bible. Now that it is too late, this man’s views will have totally changed. Sadly, he will join the likes of Stephen Hawking who now has met the theory of everything, but it is too late. Higgs will meet the God who created every particle, the God who simply spoke the universe into existence. As we talked about these last few days, people would not listen, even if he were able to publish his new findings.
Jesus told the story of the rich man and the beggar named Lazarus. Luke 16:22 “The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 In hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. 24 So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’ 25 “But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. 26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’ 27 “He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, 28 for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’ 29 “Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.’ 30 “‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’ 31 “He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”
For Higgs, he will meet the maker of all things, but it will be to late. He will not be able to publish his findings about the God who created the heavens and the earth. Higgs already had everything at his fingertips but rejected God’s word for the wisdom of man. It was said that Peter Higgs was a “remarkable individual – a truly gifted scientist whose vision and imagination have enriched our knowledge of the world that surrounds us. His pioneering work has motivated thousands of scientists, and his legacy will continue to inspire many more for generations to come,” but the reality is he was a fool who did not believe in God. Sadly, his findings will sway many people, and many will believe the findings of man instead of believing the word of God. It is too bad that he was not able to say as king Nebuchadnezzar said, Daniel 4:34 “I, Nebuchadnezzar, raised my eyes toward heaven, and my sanity was restored. Then I praised the Most High; I honored and glorified him who lives forever. His dominion is an eternal dominion; his kingdom endures from generation to generation. 37 I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and exalt and glorify the King of heaven, because everything he does is right and all his ways are just. And those who walk in pride he is able to humble.” Are you Amos 4:12 “Prepare(d) to meet your God.” 13 He who forms the mountains, who creates the wind, and who reveals his thoughts to mankind, who turns dawn to darkness, and treads on the heights of the earth— the Lord God Almighty is his name.”
