Air, wind, gravity, electricity cannot be seen until it acts upon something. A kite can fly, or a boat can sail. We don’t have to tie ourselves down when we step outside and with the click of a switch, lights come on. All of these things are accepted and are not questioned. It would be foolish to question what will happen when you touch a live wire or whether the wind exists. I was riding my bike one day and it was so windy that when I stopped pedaling, I immediately came to a stop but there was nothing there. To say because I can’t see it, it doesn’t exist is ridiculous. The effects from these examples can be seen and felt but when it comes to God, the creator of all things, Colossians 1:16 “For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible,” people do not believe because they can’t see Him and because of rebellion, the church is not seeing the effects of God, so unbelief is high even though His word makes it know that God is very real. You may have heard someone who had prayed but God did not answer, and then decided He doesn’t exist. They should have taken the time to find out why God did not answer. Someone said to me one time, do you see the power you are talking about? Their point was that because you do not see it, therefore it doesn’t exist in the church today. That is foolishness because scripture says the church is supposed to have power and authority so instead of saying it does not exist, find out why but people do not. Isaiah 57:11 “Whom have you so dreaded and feared that you have not been true to me, and have neither remembered me nor taken this to heart? Is it not because I have long been silent that you do not fear me?” 2 Petter 3:3 “Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. 4 They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” 5 But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water.”
Every day people believe in things they cannot see or that they cannot understand. I have never seen a tsunami but obviously they exist but when it comes to God, they reject His word because they neither see nor understand. People reject God because they do not understand God. We are supposed to Psalm 29:2 “Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.” Paul said, 1 Timothy 1:17 “Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.” Job said Job 42:5 “My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you. 6 Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes.” Instead of submitting to their king, Jeremiah 4:22 “My people are fools; they do not know me. They are senseless children; they have no understanding.” Deuteronomy 32:5 “They are corrupt and not his children; to their shame they are a warped and crooked generation. 6 Is this the way you repay the Lord, you foolish and unwise people? Is he not your Father, your Creator, who made you and formed you?” The same can be said about the Holy Spirit of whom you cannot see but you can see the results of His presence. But be careful because as we have seen in what some call the church, satan masquerades as an angel of light. 2 Thessalonians 2:9 The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how satan works. He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve the lie, 10 and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing.” Tomorrow we are talking about satan, the invisible killer.
This journey comes down to belief and faith. Do we believe in God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. There is really no way possible to fully understand God but we can gain wisdom and understanding by fearing God. Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. 2 This is what the ancients were commended for. 3 By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.” Though God is invisible, Jesus proved the existence of God. Colossians 1:15 “The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.” This is why so many try to disprove the existence of Jesus and the Holy Spirit. They do this by rejecting God’s word and His Spirit while at the same time claiming to believe in God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. By rejecting the word of God, Paul goes on to say 2 Thessalonians 2:9 “They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. 11 For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie 12 and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.”
Only a few people who have lived on this earth saw Jesus alive and the rest have His word and no excuses. After Thomas finally saw Jesus after He rose from the dead, he said John 20:28 “My Lord and my God!” 29 Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” satan does not want you to see and so many in the church remain blind and deaf. Because of rebellion, Amos 8:2 “Then the Lord said to me, “The time is ripe for my people Israel; I will spare them no longer. 3 “In that day,” declares the Sovereign Lord, “the songs in the temple will turn to wailing. 11 The days are coming,” declares the Sovereign Lord, “when I will send a famine through the land— not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord. 12 People will stagger from sea to sea and wander from north to east, searching for the word of the Lord, but they will not find it.” Ezekiel was told Ezekiel 12:2 “Son of man, you are living among a rebellious people. They have eyes to see but do not see and ears to hear but do not hear, for they are a rebellious people.” Matthew 13:13 “Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand. 14 In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah: “‘You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving. 15 For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.’ 16 But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear. 17 For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.”
Don’t let the inviable nature of God, turn you away from Him. Like the wind, we can see God’s presence in His handiwork and all creation proclaims His glory, plus we have His word. Until we see His power again Psalm 77:10 “Then I thought, “To this I will appeal: the years when the Most High stretched out his right hand. 11 I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. 12 I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds.” Paul said, Romans 1:20 “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” As the church returns to God’s word, we will once again see His power among us. Humble yourself before God and ask Him to open your eyes and ears to the power of His word. Psalm 119:18 “Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law.”
