Yesterday we looked at Elijah and the fire from heaven. Even though there was famine in the land, Ahab sold himself to do evil in the eyes of the Lord and He behaved in the vilest manner by going after idols, like the Amorites the Lord drove out before Israel. Not only was Jezebel urging Ahab to do evil she was killing prophets and the people could not tell right from wrong, God in his timing stepped in and showed he was God. The people then said the Lord He is God! I said yesterday that we are in a similar position of unbelief in the church. Sometimes it appears that God is not here nor does he care. What he wants are a people who will serve him wholeheartedly. This Christmas we need to serve a risen Saviour. Jesus did not come to stay as a baby or stay in the grave, John 10:10 “he came that we may have life and have it abundantly.” But many have stayed at the manger in their relationship with Jesus Christ. Hebrews 5:11 “We have much to say about this, but it is hard to make it clear to you because you no longer try to understand. 12In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! 13Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. 14But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.”
The good news is God is not dead He is surely alive as the Newsboys remind us in their singing. We continue to pray that God would revive us once again and that his true power would flow. We pray that the fire would once again fall from heaven. Casting Crowns sing a song we are using tomorrow called “I heard the Bells on Christmas Day.” One of the verses says, “Then rang the bells more loud and deep. God is not dead, nor doth He sleep (Peace on earth, peace on earth) The wrong shall fail, the right prevail, with peace on earth, goodwill to men. Then ringing, singing on its way, the world revolved from night to day. A voice, a chime, a chant sublime of peace on earth, goodwill to men.
Know this Christmas season that God is not dead. Don’t just go through the motions of worship. Make sure that you are right with Jesus Christ because soon you will meet him face to face. Scripture makes it clear that we need to seek him and it needs to be with everything we have. Don’t be content following the crowds through the wide gate. Grab a hold of scripture as your compass and look for the narrow way. The Lord He is God, the Lord He is God.
